Tutill Brings A Touch Of Green To The NFE

Funeral requisites specialists Tutill Remembrance Items will be displaying a  range of high quality environmentally aware products on  Stand B1c in Hall 2 at the National Funeral Exhibition in June.

One of the firm's success stories in the past year has been the arrival of the biodegradable cremation urn.  Made from sand and gelatine, the urns come in a variety of shapes and colours and are designed to be assimilated upon burial. Feeling like and looking like terracotta  they allow the funeral director to offer families who wish to lay their loved ones to rest outside of a conventional cemetery, a final burial option which does not risk the indignity of being unearthed some years later. Or, in the case of burial at sea, no risk of being returned to land.

Combined with the "butterflies and hearts" wildflower seed impregnated cards, which Tutill  will be giving away free to visitors to their stand at the NFE, these urns create a natural memorial that gives something back to the environment.

Managing Director Susan Tutill explained, "We believe that the biodegradable funeral urns meet the needs of those who do not wish to retain an urn and who do not wish to bury a non-biodegradable urn either for aesthetic or personal reasons. The biodegradable urn will degrade into the surrounding soil, leaving no discernable trace within 3 - 4 months. Immersed in water it lasts only a matter of hours.

"The biodegradable urns are particularly popular in coastal areas or where the family has an affinity with the sea.  They are also popular with Hindu's seeking to return cremated remains to India for dispersal in the Ganges as there are no issues with taking the urn through customs as there would possibly be with a metal urn, or difficulties in transport with a terracotta or glass urn."
