PRESS INFORMATION FROM TUTILL REMEMBRANCE ITEMS Putting Respect Back On The Road Time was when common courtesy and respect for the deceased meant that other road users would not overtake a funeral cortege. Now, there is only so much that practiced funeral professionals can do to keep following cars and limousine in orderly line astern of the hearse. Dipped headlamps no longer seem to be enough, so an increasing number of funeral directors are now handing out highly visible magnetic funeral banners from Tutill Remembrance Items to mourners travelling in their own vehicles. Sue Tutill, the firm's managing director says, "Sadly, butting in on roundabouts and not giving way to allow the tail end of a cortege to turn out of a minor road seem to be on the increase. Overtaking a hearse travelling alone is bad enough, but when oncoming traffic forces an unthinking driver to cut in in front of the following limousine, the disrespect displayed here is something that the next of kin can certainly do without". More of an operational headache is the vexed issue of parking. "Many councils and local authorities now have an enlightened attitude towards waiving parking restrictions for funeral vehicles, but that still does not prevent the odd opportunist from moving 'no parking' cones - sometimes in full view of attending funeral staff. They do not seem to realise that the reason for the cones being so far apart is to make room for the hearse and its accompanying six door limousine, which can be longer by half as much again as a conventional saloon car" Tutill's solution here is its own version of the traffic cone, but supplied in black and visibly marked with the word 'funeral' on the centre reflective section. As Sue Tutill concludes, "As a company we cannot change attitudes amongst an unthinking minority of motorists, but with items like these we can at least hope to make people stop and think about the potential hurt and inconvenience their actions might cause to the recently bereaved" Samples of both cones and banners will be on display on Stand B1c in Hall 2 at the National Funeral Exhibition in June. Funeral directors with an eye towards enhancing awareness within their community, can also take the opportunity there of discussing with Tutill the option of overprinting a firm's name onto either product.
