PRESS INFORMATION FROM TUTILL REMEMBRANCE ITEMS Boston 09: shop window for the American funeral profession The NFDA International Convention and Expo held over the 26th - 28th October 2009 in Boston, is the annual shop window for the American funeral profession. Sue Tutill of Tutill Remembrance Items says "When we started coming to the show ten years ago, I would have said that it was twice as large as the NFE at Stoneleigh, but now it is the same size. Many of the things we saw might not be suitable for the UK, but we picked up all the brochures and catalogues all the same - so if people are looking for something in particular, then we may know where we can get it". Already, as a result of the visit, Tutill Remembrance has added two new condolence books to its line. "One design is at the top end, very special and a bit expensive, and the other is of a more basic format. So we can now offer our clients three price ranges - economy, standard and deluxe" Available now too, are a range of competitively priced reusable grave markers, available in black or dark green, together with a 'funeral' sign that clips onto the front of a rear view mirror. "A simple idea that we will now be offering over here, and an alternative for those mourners who for whatever reason dislike the magnetic pennants we already provide". Traditional and not so traditional urns may also be in the pipeline. "We saw some breathtaking Venetian glass designs there that would be shipped direct from Venice, not the USA. Depending on price and delivery times, Tutill may be making these available to British funeral directors" Of perhaps more specialist appeal is the production of urns that are an exact copy of the deceased's head. "The makers need a front photograph, and then a side view - a bit like a police mug shot - and they then manufacture the urn from this. A high technology equivalent of the centuries-old practice of making a death mask perhaps?" Ends Image caption: "On show at Boston: cremation urns that are exact copies of the deceased's head."
