PRESS INFORMATION FROM BINZ UK When Only The Best Will Do Tiverton-based, third generation funeral directors Walter H Squires and Son, is all set to celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2008. Now managed by husband and wife team Ryan and Melanie Squires, the year will be a memorable one, not just as a way of marking an unbroken tradition of service, but to herald a period of expansion too. The catalyst for all this can be traced back to 2007, when Walter H Squires and Son bought a hearse and two limousines from Binz, after having had a period of very satisfactory service from a Binz Vito private ambulance purchased the previous year. Developing the business had always been part of a long term plan, and with the heightened awareness of the firm's funeral services that the all-new Binz fleet seemed to be generating, Walter H Squires and Son decided to open an additional Chapel of Rest in Cullompton, to better serve families in this area. The Binz vehicles themselves always attract positive comments from clients with regard to the finish of the limousines and the design of the hearse; the latter's large viewing glass allowing onlookers and mourners to view the casket and floral arrangements clearly; the modern styling of the vehicle being both respectful and dignified. However, Ryan Squires remembers thinking at the planning stage that such a pristine fleet required a pristine base from which to operate: "Having purchased first class vehicles we didn't want to let the image down by operating from less than perfect premises. The two go hand in hand." Accordingly, the new Cullompton funeral home boasts a large entrance lobby and reception room, a dedicated Chapel of Rest - served by its own private waiting room, and two arrangement rooms. Particular emphasis was placed on incorporating accessibility features where appropriate, to ensure that the disabled are able to take full advantage of the facilities available. Behind the scenes are a fully equipped mortuary and an embalming theatre. The Chapel of Rest itself was dedicated on Tuesday 22nd April 2008 in a multi-denominational ceremony, led by Reverend Anna Norman-Walker on behalf of the Anglican Churches of the Culm Valley, and assisted by representatives of all the local denominations. A couple of days later, Ryan and Melanie Squires played host to a select group of local guests for the formal opening of the Cullompton premises. The evening commenced with a short speech from Ryan Squires, followed by the unveiling of the dedication certificate by Cullompton's Mayor, Councillor Barrie Marshall. Kevin Smith, Sales Director at Binz (UK) Ltd., added, "Everyone at Binz wishes Ryan and Melanie Squires a great future and we are, of course, delighted to be associated with this fantastic step forward for Walter H Squires and Son in their 75th year in business."
