INVESTING IN SILVER

For a funeral director to move away from black might seem like a risky proposition to an outsider, but not if like Lesley Shand Funeral Service, you take the trouble to get to know your local market. Founded in 1988, the Poole, Dorset firm recently took delivery of a Binz E-Class based 5-seater hearse and matching 6 door limousine, both finished in Mercedes-Benz silver.

Now part of the F.C. Douch group, Lesley Shand first became aware of the colour's appeal when requests by clients became too numerous to ignore.  "We had to hire in from fellow funeral directors up to 100 miles distant", says manager Shane Watson. Adding that, "Our move to silver was initially to do with the needs of the younger generation, who are looking for funerals that are more of a celebration of a life, but even older people, now they can see that there is an option, are going for this too."

Choosing the Binz Mercedes-Benz based vehicles has also helped to strengthen Lesley Shand's position as an independent in the face of some quite heavyweight regional competition who also run Binz vehicles.

As Shane concludes, it comes down to a mixture of practicality and emotion: "Binz had the safety factors we needed, the extra bearer seats, and the six door limousine has a certain amount of class. So now, when we are talking about a limousine, it sells itself".
