PRESS INFORMATION FROM BINZ UK Binz's Oldest Employee Puts His Feet Up Most people aim to retire when they reach 65. However long term driver for Binz UK, Reg Legg actually worked for 64 years before deciding to hand over his car keys. Yet at 78 years of age upon his retirement, Reg actually started working for Binz 11 years ago, when most people would have been aiming to put their feet up and potter around the house. Reg had previously been an HGV driver spending some 18 years driving oil tankers and another 18 driving an articulated unit. His working life as a driver was interrupted only by five years in the army, two and a half of which he spent in Korea. Asked what changes he had seen in his time at Binz, Reg said, "I originally started work when Peter Smith, Binz's CEO, was distributing Nilsson Volvo-based cars, and the biggest change has to have been the move to the Mercedes E-Class Binz vehicles when Volvo stopped making their extended chassis. That aside, the quality of the product I was working with only ever got better." Reg's role was to deliver and collect the prestige 6-door coachbuilt limousines and five door hearses that Binz supplies to chauffeur drive firms and funeral directors in the UK and Eire. Not as straightforward as it sounds, when you consider that a Binz limousine is as long as the average white van, but with a value well in excess of most top-range executive super saloons. Looking back at his time with the company, Reg has no regrets about coming to work for Binz, "Peter Smith is the best employer anyone could ever ask for. He is interested in his staff and his business and expects to see perfection. No vehicle ever leaves the premises without being fully valeted and detailed inside and out." Right now Reg has no set plans for his retirement, a little bit of walking, and a holiday are on the cards before he starts doing all that decorating his wife has planned for him. Marketing director Roberta Smith commented, "Reg has been an asset to Binz, a careful and considerate member of our team here at Reading. He was an ambassador for the business and the cars. We shall miss him but after 64 years of work Reg has certainly earned the right to relax. Everyone at Binz wishes him well in his retirement."
