Binz Find Family Firm Perfect Partners

When family funeral directors H & H J Huteson & Sons of Barton on Humber in North Lincolnshire began their search for a replacement fleet, the firm made the conscious decision to buy new again. Though it had never bought vehicles from Binz UK before, the attractions of a Coleman-Milne Fairlane Cardinal hearse and matching Dorchester limousine that were already in stock at Reading, proved too good to miss.

As director Alastair Huteson explains, "They had the vehicles we were looking for, and I've known the people at Binz for a long time, both in this business and as part of my work within the NAFD. We used to run Fords before we ran Vauxhalls, and I also personally like the look of the Fairlane".

The new fleet is larger all round than the Vectras they replace. So much so that Alastair recalls, "Though Binz were able to offer immediate delivery, we had to wait until we had modified our garages to accept the vehicles, and we still have only about an inch to spare in front of the cars when the garage doors are closed". The upside though is more space inside, something which is beginning to be a factor today in seating three mourners comfortably abreast within a seven seat limousine.

The two Fairlanes may need to work hard for their living too, as they will typically be covering around 10 -12,000 miles a year, serving the firm's main funeral home at Barton-upon-Humber as well as a second location at Immingham near Grimsby.  Alastair noted that whilst for many funerals it might only be a three mile journey, "Being fairly rural, it is not unusual for us to do 40 to 50 miles on a funeral, and we cover a large catchment area as well".

Whilst Binz UK might seem not to be the most obvious coachbuilder to supply these Fords, it all goes to show that the company is far from being the one-stop Mercedes-Benz shop that it might appear to outsiders. As sales director Kevin Smith stresses. "As both a specialist maintainer of funeral vehicles to the profession, and when preparing pre-owned vehicles for resale, we have got to know the Fairlane inside and out both in its current and previous model generations. We are delighted to have been able to source H & H J Huteson & Sons their perfect vehicle partners, and on the occasion of their 60th anniversary year, wish them another prosperous 60 to come."
