Coachbuilder wows Irish funeral directors

Can design by itself make a difference? Judging from the response that coachbuilder's Binz UK had at the recent Irish Funeral Trade Exhibition, held at Mullingar Park Hotel, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland over the 27th and 28th of September 2006, it certainly can. "No doubt about it, out of the display of vehicles arrayed on our stand, it was the iF Design forum award-winning five door hearse that most people had come to see", says the company's sales director, Kevin Smith.

All the more unusual, for a land where the majority of funerals are burials, distances between church and cemetery are short, and where bearers tend to be drawn from the next of kin. "Having had a chance to talk to many visitors throughout the two days, it became clear that they whilst they had heard and read a lot about this vehicle, they now wanted to see for themselves whether it was as good as our publicity. And perhaps to check just how far the same values and attention to detail have gone into our recently-released three door hearses", added Smith with a smile.

Like all tightly-focused exhibitions targeted at a particular group, the Mullingar Park event was all about quality rather than quantity. But even so, Binz UK staff were kept on the go for most of the two day event, fielding enquiries for the two door hearse - as well as its E-Class based limousine.

As Smith comments, "Most of the funeral directors we spoke to were family firms, operating outside of the major cities, and where the intrinsic reliability of our Mercedes-Benz extended chassis E-Class based vehicles was always going to be an attraction. But because Binz UK is as much about service and support as new car sales, our appearance at the show also marked the start of an agreement with Co. Antrim-based bodybuilders Fearghas Quinn, for them to act as the initial point of contact for our customers from Ireland"
