PRESS INFORMATION FROM AIXAM MEGA Mega Fleet Helps Hambleton Go Green Hambleton District Council has taken delivery of a fleet of four Mega vans. It is part of the North Yorkshire based authority's plans to minimize the environmental impact of its operations The lightweight Mega vans are constructed from virtually 100 per cent recyclable materials, take up less road space than a conventional vehicle and place less stress on the local environment. The 497cc diesel-engined Mega vehicles are also pretty frugal with fuel and have been logged as delivering around 80mpg. The pedestrian friendly face of the vehicle, its light weight and its manoeuvrability make the Mega ideal for public facing operations in urban and leisure operations. Hambleton District Council's Operational Services Manager, Mike Kneebone said, "The Mega is an economical load carrier perfectly suited to our needs. The Megas allow us to respond quickly to fly tipping and local complaints from the public and allow us to return to our routine schedule as quickly as possible." Owen Roberts from Tyrbrid Developments, the Carlisle-based Mega agent who supplied the vehicles was delighted to have been able to assist Hambleton District Council in selecting the Mega as an ideal vehicle for environmental services. Mr Roberts said, "The Mega offers a pleasant environmentally friendly alternative to a light van. We can also offer the Mega with a tipper body, or as a caged pick-up for alternative duties." Councillor John Morley, Hambleton District Council's Cabinet Member for the Environment, added: "At the moment our men have to walk the towns to collect dropped litter - so their rounds are limited. But with these vehicles we will be able to cover far more ground and respond far more quickly to problems - fly tipping or local complaints. The purchase of the Mega vans is also a positive step towards improving the environmental credentials of the council's activities".
