PRESS INFORMATION FROM WEST FEST West Fest is a free rock festival for the young people of the Denby Dale and Kirkburton area. It is being led by Clayton West Explorers with input from other youth groups in the area. It is a lynchpin event to kickstart co-operation between youth groups in the area, and to provide a point of contact between the various groups and the young people of the area. The aim being to develop inter group co-operation and to reach out to young people who may feel themselves left out of the local community. West Fest will take place at Clayton West Scout Grounds in Wakefield Road, Clayton West, on the 3rd of September, between 2:00pm and 11:00pm. West Fest would like to run later, but out of consideration for local residents they have put a time limit on the public event. It is understand that there will be some inconvenience to local residents but we hope to minimise that and would point out that this is a one-off event at this venue. Youth members of the various groups in Clayton West will be planning, organising and running the event, wherever possible, and local bands are welcome to apply to play at West Fest. Already there is considerable interest from both established and new bands, with West Yorkshire bands such as 6 Fingered Man, Bandage These Hearts, Crush, Eyestrive, Johnny Poindexter, Raven Theory, Rhombus, Session 9, Stylus, Unscathed Hero, and Zealous all showing a keen interest in playing at the event. A youth spokesman for West Fest said, "We appreciate that there will be some local inconvenience on the day of the event but everyone is welcome to come along and join in the atmosphere of the festival, and we will try to minimise any disturbance - there will be no alcohol sold on site, and we will be employing proper security for the event." Fiona Scott, representing the Scout Group said, "We will be taking steps to ensure that the event runs safely with minimal disruption to local residents - although we cannot deny that the music may not be to everyone's taste. We hope to arrange to have buses available to take people back to the local villages after the event so that there are not large numbers of young people on the streets late at night." Bands interested in playing at West Fest should contact the organisers via the website http://www.westfest.org.uk , however the playlist is already looking busy. There may also be opportunities for short speciality acts running between the bands during the changeover periods. There may also be opportunities for local stall concessions at the event.
